Social disparity was indeed one of the basic causes of the French Revolution.It was one of the main causes of the French Revolution as in France one section of the society was denied rights and the other sections of the society were favored extravagantly.

There were some fundamental rights and exemption from paying the taxes for Clergy and Nobility but not for the third estate.

There were social discrimination between rich and poor.For example, in France the starving poor were over taxed while the rich paid no tax.
