Abstract

In the present day changing society, the institution of family has lost to a large degree many important social functions socialization, caring of child, recreation etc. Family has disintegrated from joint to nuclear and couples find it difficult to manage their children. This has led marginalization of children and they are being separated from family and rest of society and are not at the center of things. This is evident from the various studies carried in the area of sociology of children. Based on a sample of 200 respondents and using an intensive approach through the case study method, the study has been carried out in the rural and urban areas of Srinagar district of the Kashmir valley and aimed to trace the implications of social dynamics on parent-child relationship like harmonious parent-child relation, face to face contact, intimacy, care etc. The author/s found that there has been a significant impact on these variables and the gap between parents and their children has widened which has marginalized the children within the family.
