Carbonated water or Soda water is water that has been infused with carbon dioxide gas under high pressure. This produces a bubbly drink that's also known as sparkling water, club soda, soda water, seltzer water and fizzy water. With the exception of seltzer water, they usually have salt added to improve the taste.

Gases can be dissolved in suitable liquids. At a given temperature, a liquid can dissolve only a certain definite mass of the gas. This suggest that a state of equilibrium exists between the molecules in gaseous state and the molecules dissolved in the liquid. When carbon dioxide is dissolved in soda water, the following equilibrium exists:
CO2(g) ⇔ CO2 (in solution)
The solubility of a gas in the liquid depends on the pressure. The dependence of the solubility of a gas and its pressure above the solvent is given by a law known as Henry's law. According to Henry's law,
the mass of a gas dissolved in a given mass of a solvent at a particular temperature is proportional to the pressure of the gas above the solvent.
m ∝ p
m = kp
The soda bottles are sealed by adding carbon dioxide gas at high pressures (above atmospheric pressure). Because of high pressure, there is plenty of gas dissolved in water.
