Sodium and oxygen combine to form two compoundd of which one is na2o. the percentage of sodium in the other compound is 59%. find the formula of this compound

i know it is Na2O2 but if the ratio i am getting is 2:1 then how Na2O2

Answer:

Because of the less size of sodium, it combines with less amount of oxygen leading to the formation of sodium peroxide but potassium is having a bigger size than sodium forms superoxide.

Potassium is more reactive metal than sodium. But this is not the correct reason for the potassium to form superoxide and sodium to form peroxide.

So, Both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion
