Sodium bicarbonate is also known as sodium hydrogen carbonate, but it is most familiar as baking soda. The reaction of sodium bicarbonate with hydrochloric acid produces salt (sodium chloride, NaCl), and water, and carbon dioxide. In Experiment 1, you used this reaction to make carbon dioxide in a plastic bag.
