Sodium chloride dissolves in water but carbon tetrachloride is not soluble in water. Why?

CCl4 is a tetrahedral molecule-covalently bonded. This compound does not form Cl- ions in water, and therefor is not very soluble. It also contains no net dipole, NaCl is an ionic compound that forms Na+ and Cl- ions in water, and therefor dissolves into the polar water.
