❥︎ Ionic Compound or Electrovalent Compound

Explanation :

Since, An Ionic Compound or Electrovalent compound is one containing both cation and anion.

On seeing the formation of NaCl , we can find that Na having electronic Configuration (2,8,1 ) or 1s² 2s² 2p 3s¹ needs to lose 1e- in order to gain stability on losing 1e- from its valence shell it's electronic Configuration becomes (2,8) or

1s² 2s² 2p and thereby form Cation(+1)

On other hand Cl atom having electronic Configuration, (2,8,7) or 1s² 2s² 2p 3s² 3p , so it needs to gain one electron in order to become stable so it gains one electron of Na atom and become stable . Thereby forming an anion Cl(-1)

and hence form an Electrovalent compound or Ionic Compound NaCl .
