It is formed by the transfer of one electron from sodium atom to chlorine atom.In,sodium chloride sodium is metal and chlorine is non metal.And as we know electrovalent compounds contain metal atoms in their molecule but covalent compouds do not contain metals atoms in their their molecule.Ammonia is not a metal
