Sodium is a very reactive metal. It iskept in kerosene to prevent it from coming in contact with oxygen and moisture. If this happens, it will react with the moisture present in air and form sodium hydroxide. This is a strongly exothermic reaction, and lot of heat is generated.

if sodium metals comes in contact with air, it will react vigorously with oxygen to produce heat and light. hence the reason...

fernandesnuriel: not light
pPooja1: then if we keep it open place then it will burn na
fernandesnuriel: yes . haha . light also will be produced. im such an idiot
