yah because the sodium is highly reactive towards oxygen as if it gets exposed to oxygen it reacts spontaneously that's why it is kept in kerosene inside kerosene it is preserved well and does not reacts

Sodium is highly reactive . So it's kept immersed in kerosene oil to prevent its reaction with oxygen , moisture and carbon dioxide of air to prevent accidental fires .
