Sodium is a highly reactive element it quickly catches fire ,on coming in contact with air or water ,so it is stored in kerosene which is a liquid fuel
medium which deny sodium to come in contact with air or water .When sodium comes in contact with air it reacts with the oxygen present in the air to form sodium oxide.Oxidation reaction is taking place in this reaction .It is also a combination reaction.
ie;
Na+O2=Na2O
When we balance the equation it becomes :
4Na+O2=2Na2O
