In ordinary air, sodium metal reactsto form a sodium hydroxide film, which can rapidly absorb carbon dioxide from the air, forming sodium bicarbonate. Sodium doesnot react with nitrogen, so sodiumis usually kept immersed in a nitrogen atmosphere (or in inert liquids such as kerosene or naphtha).
Sodium reacts with the oxygen in air to form sodium oxide, and traces of yellowish sodium peroxide. The sodium oxide formed will react with water to give sodium hydroxide. The sodium hydroxide formed will react with carbon dioxide to give sodium carbonate
Hey mate here is ur answer... Hope it helps
