Answer:

The answer is 6km/hr. Because if he covered the first 2 km of distance at a speed of 4km/hr, then he would have taken 30 minutes to cover the first 2km. So he would be left with only 20 minutes. So he would have to complete more 2km of distance in just 20 minutes. So he should walk the remaining distance with a speed of 6km/hr. Thank you.

Given : Sohail  leaves his house at 8.10 am for his school.

The school is 4 km away and the classes start at 9.00 am.

he walks at a speed of 4 km /hr for the first 2 kilometers,

To Find : at what speed should he walk the remaining distance to reach just in time

Solution:

Sohail  leaves his house at 8.10 am for his school.

The school is 4 km away and the classes start at 9.00 am.

Total Time taken = 9 :00 - 8 :10  = 50 mins

he walks at a speed of 4 km /hr for the first 2 kilometers,

Distance = Speed * Time

=> 2  =  4 * T

=> T = 1/2  hr  = 30 mins

Time left  = 50 - 30  = 20  mins  = 1/3  hr

Distance left  = 4 - 2 =  2 km

Speed  =  2/ ( 1/3)  = 6 km/hr
