Solar energy is a renewable resource because the sun rises every day and provides energy again, without having to dig, pump, extract, or refine anything. Once installed, solar panels or solar hot water systems provides energy, every day, without having to disturb anything on the Earth.

One could argue that the production of the solar panels wasn't renewable, but compare the production of heat from solarr panels with a gas furnace. Both need to be built in the first place. Once built, the solar panels don't need any other input besides sun light. The gas furnace needs a steady supply, every day of fossil fuels, extracted from the ground, and shipped long distances.

Of course, the effectiveness of solar varies by season and weather conditions, but it is always renewable.
