Given : solar radiation arrives at the top of the atmosphere at a rate of 84kj per minute per square metre(84/min.m²).

On average only 47% of this energy reaches the ground level.

To Find : the amount of energy in kj reaching 2m² at ground level over the period of 10800 seconds

Solution:

solar radiation arrives at the top of the atmosphere   = 84 kj  per min mer m²

47% of this energy reaches the ground level.

= (47/100) 84

= 39.48 kj per min per m²

2m² at ground level

= 2 * 39.48  kj per min

= 78.96  kj per min

10800 seconds  = 10800/60  mins

=  180  mins

the amount of energy in  10800 seconds  reaching 2m2 at ground level

= 180 x  78.96  kj

= 14,212.8  kj
