solid are normally not compressible. why can a spong be readily pressed

Solid are normally not compressible but sponge is a solid and is compressible because it has air holes in it. when we compress sponge the air goes out and the sponge is compressed.

Sponge has innumerable small air gaps present between them. Due these pores we are able to compress it.
