solid co2 is qlso known as dry ice.why?

Solid CO2 is also known as DRY ICE . This is so because it looks like ice and when it melts ( but , actually it 'sublimes' ) , it goes from solid directly to gas , without undergoing the liquid state ( hence , dry ) .
