Solid Sodium Chloride doesn't conduct electricity but molten Sodlum chloride Conducts electricity why?

Molten state ions are free to flow and therefore in molten state sodium chloride can conduct electricity.

  • Solid Sodium chloride has their ions fixed in position in a crystal structure hence ions cannot move so solid ionic compounds cannot conduct electricity.

Answer:

solid sodium chloride didn't conduct electricity because the ions are fixed at a space but sodium chloride conduct electricity as it's ions are freely moving.
