Solid is generally hard because the molecules of solid are packed closed . They have very less space between them .

While , the molecules of gases have distance between them . Thus , gases are light while solids are hard .

solid have higher intermolecular force between the atoms and so it's tightly packed..due to this packing they become heavy..and hence the solids are very heavy compared to gases..Gases have less intermolecular force and is very loosely packed
