Solid are normally not compressible butsponge is a solid and is compressiblebecause it has air holes in it. when we compress sponge the air goes out and thesponge is compressed.

Hii Mate Here is your Answer,

☆ Why solids are not compressible ?

Solids are not compressible mass because its particles are very close together due to which we cannot compress it any more. But in case of liquid and gases, we can compress it up to some extent as its particles are not so close together like solids.

☆ Sponges are compressibe. Is it a solid?

Yes, Altough Sponges are compressible still it is solid because it Shows most of the properties of solids . Like - Unfluid, Solid at room Temperature, Constant shape and volume etc.

Also it is a solid because it is made of solid matter like rubber or Cottons.

☆ Why Sponges can be easily compressible by applying a little amount of Force?

We can you easily compress sponges because sponsers contain many empty spaces which is filled with air so whenever we will squeeze a sponge air will be goes out from those space and it will shrink. So,sponges are compressible altough it is a solid but it has spaces because it is made up of such matter.

☆ Can you prove that Sponges contain air?

Yes we can easily proof that sponges contains by submerging it in underwater and squeeze it there. We can see bubbles coming out from it under the water . Those are air molecules coming from those empty space of the sponge when it is squeezed.
