SOLIDS CAN NOT BE COMPRESSED THEN WHY SPONGE CAN BE COMPRESSED AND IRON BALL WITH HOLE CAN NOT BE COMPRESSED

sponge is a porous solid. sponge has minute holes in which air is trapped when we press it the air is expelled out and we are able to compress it. A sponge can be compressed easily but still we count them in solids because they have minute pores in it which are filled with air.

The particles of iron piece are closely packed and have negligible intermolecular space . So , the iron piece can't be compressed
