Solids exerts pressure only in downwards direction. If we take a block and put another block on top of it the upper block will exert force on the lower block therefore the lower block also applies thrust on the upper block(3rd law of motion) then it means the the lower block appliing pressure on the upper block . So the solid is applying pressure in upward direction too??

Answer:

According to newton 3rd law the body exerts equal and opposite action and reaction force,so when the upper block is placed above the lower block they exert newton 3rd law of motion, solids can apply force both in upward and downward ,upward is normal force which doesn't let us fall while standing, and downward is gravitational force which tries pull us down ,when this both forces are equal the body is in rest
