Ice is a solid and floats in itsliquid state water. A: ... Ice floats in water because it is less dense than water. So any substance that has alower density in its solid state than inits liquid state will float.

Water is not the only substance having such property. Elements such as silicon, germanium, gallium, arsenic and bismuth are also known to float in their own liquid forms. Any solid substance whose density is lower than that of its liquid form can float in its own liquid.

Example, Ice is a solid and floats in its liquid state water. A: ... Ice floats in water because it is less dense than water. So any substance that has a lower density in its solid state than in its liquid state will float.
