metallic oxides when dissolved in water they reacts with water to form metal hydroxide and when they react with water a molecules of hydrogen is added to the metal oxide and that,s why they form metal hydroxide
for example
MgO +H2O ——>Mg(OH)2
K2O +H2O ——>2KOH
