Answer: The gas evolved is carbon dioxide and the compound is calcium carbonate(CaCO3)

CaCo3 + H2SO4 -------- CaSO4 + CO2 + H20

(i) Na2CO3. It reduces the excess HCl in the stomach by neutralizing it as Na2CO3 is a base

(ii) He will use quick lime(CaO). The soil is acidic in nature. He does as to neutralize the acid the soil as CaO is a base
