Answer:

Explanation:

a) Here X is lime water i.e. Ca(OH)2 , which is used to test the presence of carbon dioxide .

The equation of the reaction  of x with carbon dioxide:

Ca(OH)2 + CO2 ---------->  CaCO3 + H2O

---- when calcium hydroxide (lime water) react with carbon dioxide it forms a white precipitate of calcium carbonate (the solution turns milky ) with the release of water .

b) Calcium oxide reacts  with water to produce slaked lime (calcium hydroxide) releasing a large amount of heat and  also produces hissing sound .

CaO(s) + H2O(l)---------> Ca(OH)2(aq)
