In the tincture of iodine the solvent is alcohol and water while the solute is iodine. Tincture of iodine is also known as weak iodine solution or iodine tincture. Iodine tincture is an antiseptic used to disinfect the wounds. The structure of the iodine tincture is 2 to 7 percent of the iodine and the remaining is either Sodium or potassium iodide.
