Value of resistance R = 3Ω

Explanation:

  • Power in electric circuit is defined as the amount of energy consumed by the circuit in given time period. Power or energy consumption is different for different appliances. It is also given as product of potential difference applied to the circuit and current flowing through the circuit

                            Power = voltage * current

                            Power = \frac{energy}{time taken}

Given, Power = 64 W

Potential difference = 24 V

Effective resistance of 24 Ω and 8 Ω are connected in series with 'R' resistance

=> 24 Ω and 8 Ω are connected in parallel so effective resistance is

=> \frac{1}{R}=\frac{1}{24}  +\frac{1}{8}

=> \frac{1}{R} =\frac{1+3}{24}

=> R= 6Ω

Total resistance of the circuit is 'R+ 6'

=> Power = VI

also, Power = \frac{V^{2} }{R}                  ( Ohm's law V= IR)

=> 64 = \frac{24^{2} }{R+6}

=> R+6 = 9

=> R = 3Ω
