By Substitution Method

Considering eqn (2)

x-3y=6

or,x=3y+6 ...(3)

Substituting eqn(3) in eqn(1)

3y+6-7y=-42

or, 6-4y=-42

or, -4y=-48

or, 4y=48

or, y=12.

Substituting value of y in eqn (3)

x=3(12)+6

or,x=36+6

or,x=42.

Ans. x=42 and y=12.
