Solution :-

→ x - y = 1

→ x - y - 1 = 0 ------- Eqn.(1)

and,

→ 2x + y = 8

→ 2x + y - 8 = 0 -------- Eqn.(2)

now, we know that, cross multiplication says that, for two equations a1x + b1y + c1 = 0 and a2x + b2x + c2 = 0 , we have,

→ x/(b1c2 - b2c1) = y/(c1a2 - c2a1) = 1/(b2a1 - b1a2)

comparing given equations we get ,

  • a1 = 1
  • b1 = (-1)
  • c1 = (-1)
  • a2 = 2
  • b2 = 1
  • c2 = (-8)

putting these values we get,

→ x/[(-1)(-8) - 1*(-1)] = y/[(-1)*2 - (-8)*1] = 1/[1*1 - (-1)*2]

→ x/(8 + 1) = y/(-2 + 8) = 1/(1 + 2)

→ x/9 = y/6 = 1/3

then,

→ x/9 = 1/3

→ x = 3 (Ans.)

and,

→ y/6 = 1/3

→ y = 2 (Ans.)
