C = 40/ 12 = 3.33 moles H = 13.33/ 1 = 13.33 moles N = 46.67/ 14 = 3.33 moles
on dividing the three obtained values of the no. of moles with the lowest values amongst the three
3.33/ 3.33 = 1 ( for C ) 13.33/ 3.33 = 4 (for H ) 3.33/ 3.33 = 1 (for N )
hence, the emperical formula of the organic compound is CH4N
