Solution x contains 40 alcohol and solution y contains 25 alcohol.In two cases the concentration of alcohol is different. In the first case the no of mole of alcohol is higher than the second one.

Now if we mix two solutions,amount of alcohols increases. As volume is additive property.As a result no of moles of alcohol also increases.
