Solvay process is alsso known as ammonia soda process, basically it is an industrial process to obtain sodium carbonate (Na2Co3) .

Reactants used

brine, calcium carbonate

2 NaCl + CaCO3 → Na2CO3 + CaCl2

and in industrial process, conc. brine solution passes through ammonia to obtain bubbles of CO2.

the product formed is sodium bicarbonate

NaCl + CO2 + NH3 + H2O ----- NaHCO3 + NH4Cl
