1. 2x + 7y =17 equation no 1

5x +3y = -1 equation no 2

multiply equation no 1 by 5

5(2x) + 5(7y) = 5(17)

10x +35y = 85 equation no 3

multiply equation no 2 by 2

2(5x) + 2(3y) = 2(-1)

10x +6y =-2 equation no 4

Subtract equation no 4 from equation no 3

10x + 35y = 85

- 10x - 6y = +2

---------------------------

0 + 29y = 87

-----------------------------

29y = 87

y= 87 /29

y= 3 answer

put the value of y =3 in equation no 1

2x + 7y = 17

2x + 7(3) = 17

2x + 21 = 17

2x = 17-21

2x = -4

x = -4/2

x = -2 answer
