 {x }^{2}  +  {y}^{2}
if :-
x + y = 11
and
xy = 6
2-
 {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2}
if :-
x - y =  - 7
and
xy =  - 4

Answer:

(i) x² + y²

= (x + y)² – 2xy

= 11² – 2×6

= 121 – 12

= 109

(ii) x² + y²

= (x – y)² + 2xy

= (–7)² + 2×(–4)

= 49 + (–8)

= 49 – 8

= 41
