Hi ,

Let the a , b and c are the three sides

of a right angled Triangle ,

where , c is the hypotenuse ,

Let shortest side = a = x m

b = ( x + 7 ) m

c = ( 2x + 1 ) m

c² = a² + b² [ By Phythagoruas Theorem ]

( 2x + 1 )² = x² + ( x + 7 )²

4x² + 4x + 1 = x² + x² + 14x + 49

4x² + 4x + 1 - 2x² - 14x - 49 = 0

2x² - 10x -48 = 0

x² - 5x - 24 = 0

x² - 8x + 3x - 24 = 0

x( x - 8 ) + 3 ( x - 8 ) = 0

( x - 8 ) ( x + 3 ) = 0

x - 8 = 0 or x + 3 = 0

x = 8 or x = - 3

x should not be negative.

So , x = 8

Therefore ,

a = x = 8 m

b = x + 7 = 8 + 7 = 15m

c = 2x + 1 = 2 × 8 + 1 = 17 m

I hope this helps you.
