The question is 2x+2(2x/3)=40
or,2x+4x/3=40
or,6x+4x=120 (multiplying all terms by 3 , the L.C.M. of the denominatiors).
or,10x=120
or,x=120/10=12
Ans:x=12.
Verification
2*12+2(12*2/3)=40
or,24+8*2=40
or,24+16=40
or,40=40 (LHS=RHS) Verified.

2x+2(2x/3)=40
2x+4x/3=40
using lcm
(6x+4x)/3=40
10x=120
x=12
