2x - 3 = 5

We will have to find the value of x.

NOTE:

  • When bringing a +ve term to the other side, it becomes -ve.
  • When bringing a -ve term to the other side, it becomes +ve.

2x = 5 + 3

2x = 8

x = 8/2

x = 4

Proof:

LHS: 2x - 3

Substituting the value of x in LHS,

2*4 - 3 = 8 - 3 = 5

RHS: 5

LHS = RHS

Hope it helps :)
