Answer: Answer :Given : 2 (x/a) + (y/b) = 2 and (x/a) - (y/b ) =4

To find x,y by method of substitution .

let 2 (x/a) + (y/b) = 2 and (x/a) - (y/b ) =4

now from eq (2) we get ,

=> (x/a) - (y/b ) = 4

=> (x/a) = 4+ (y/b ) ..............................(3)

now putting the value obtained from eq (3) in eq(1) , we get

=> 2( 4 + (y/b) ) + (y / b) =2 {using method of substitution}

=>3( y /b ) = - 6

=> y = -2 b

Now putting the value of y obtained above in eq(2) we get

=> ( x / a) -(-2b) /b) = 4

=> (x/a) + 2 =4

=> x = 2a

Answer : by method of substitution , we get the required values x= 2a , y= -2b
