3a+2b=17. ____[i]

4b–a = – 8 _____[ii]

Multiplying, [ii] by 3

We get, 12b-3a=-24 ____[iii]

Adding, [iii] and [i]

12b-3a+3a+2b=17-24

=14b=-7

b=-1/2

Substituting the value of b in [ii],

We get,

-2-a=-8

-a=-8+2

a=6
