Hello Friend !

Solution is given below :

3x - 5y = -1 ....................... (eq. 1)

x - y = -1

⇒ y = x + 1 ........................(eq 2)

Substituting the value of y in eq. 1

⇒ 3x - 5(x + 1) = -1

⇒ 3x - 5x - 5 = -1

⇒ -2x = 4

⇒ x = -2

⇒ y = x + 1 = -2 + 1 = -1

Hope this helps !

Given:

Two equations 3x - 5y = -1 and x - y = -1.

To Find:

The values of x and y using substitution.

Solution:

1. Consider the given equations.

=> 3x - 5y = -1 ( assume as equation 1 ),

=> x - y = -1 ( assume as equation 2),

2. Equation 2 can be also written as,

=> x - y = -1,

=> x = y - 1, ( assume as equation 3 ).

3. Substitute the value of x from equation 3 in equation 1,

=> 3( y - 1 ) - 5y = -1,

=> 3y - 3 -5y = -1,

=> -2y -3 = -1,

=> -2y = 2,

=> y = -1.

4. Substitute the value of y in equation 3,

=> x = y - 1,

=> x = - 1 - 1,

=> x = -2.

Therefore, the values of x and y are -2, -1. respectively.
