x-3y=8

x=8+3y_____(1)

3x−5y=16

substitute value of x from (1) in the above equation, we get

3(8+3y)−5y=16

24+9y−5y=16

9y−5y=16−24

4y=−8

y=-8/4

y=−2

Putting value of y in (1) ,we get

x=8+3y

x=8+3×(−2)

x=8−6

x=2

Therefore, x=2 and y=−2
