12p + 8 - 30p + 5 = 2p - 16 - 42p + 24

arange it to make it easy

12p - 30p +8 + 5 = 2p - 42p - 16 + 24

-18p + 13 = -40p + 8

now, transverse it--

13 - 8 = -40p + 18p

5 = -22p

5/-22=p
