Answer:

47x + 31y = 63........1

31x + 47y = 15.........2

adding 1 and 2

78x + 78y = 78

x + y = 1..........3

subtracting 1 and 2

16x - 16y = 48

x - y = 3...........4

adding 3 and 4

2x = 5

x = 5/2

putting the value of x in 3

5/3 + y =1

y = 1-5/3

y = -2/3

Solution :-

47x + 31y = 63 _________(i)

31x + 47y = 15 _______(ii)

According equation (i) and equation (ii)

78x + 78y = 78

=> 78(x + y) = 78

=> x + y = 1 => x = 1 - y _______(iii)

Subtracting equation (ii) from equation (i),

16x - 16y = 48

=> 16(x - y) = 48

=> x - y = 3

=> (1 - y) - y = 3 [from equation (iii)]

=> 1 - y - y = 3

=> - 2y = 3 - 1

=> y = 2/-2 = - 1

Now, Substituting the value of y in equation (iii),

=> x = 1 - (-1) = 1 + 1 = 2

Hence,

x = 2 and y = - 1
