Given :

4x - 7y = 23 ……(1)

6x + 2y + 3 = 0 …..(2)

To find : The value of x and y

Solution :

Elimination method is used to solve this Linear pair of Equations:

Rewrite eq 2 :

6x + 2y = - 3 ……..(3)

On multiplying equation (1) by 2 and eq (3) by 7 :

8x - 14y = 46 ………..(4)

48x + 14y = - 21 …….(5)

On adding equations (4) and (5) :

8x -14y = 46

48x + 14y = - 21

-----------------------

56x = 35

------------------------

x = 35/56

x = 5/8

On putting x = 5/8 in eq (3) we get :

6x + 2y = - 3

6(⅝) + 2y = - 3

30/8 + 2y = - 3

15/4 + 2y = - 3

2y = - 3 - 15/4

2y = (-12 - 15)/4

2y = - 27/4

y = - 27/4 × ½

y = - 27/8

Hence, the value of the given system of equations is x = 5/8 and y = - 27/8 .
