Let $\frac{1}{x} = a$ ------------1

Let $\frac{1}{y} = b$-------------2

So, the equations are 8a - 5b = 34 -------------3

                                    3a - 2b = 13 --------------4

Multiply eq.2 by 2

Multiply eq.4 by 5

So, the equations become,

16a - 10b = 68 --------------5

15a - 10b = 65 --------------6

Subtract eq.4 from eq.3

After solving, you get the answer as:

a = 3 & b = -2

Substitute the values of a and b in eq.1 an eq.2

So, x = $\frac{1}{3}$ and y = $\frac{-1}{2}$
