Question :-

Find the probability of a family chosen at random having

a) at least one girl

b) 2 girls

c) at most 1 girl

Answer -

a) In at least one girl, the families having one girl as well as families having 2 girls will be included -

So, Possible outcomes = Families having 1 girl + Families having 2 girls

= 814 + 475

= 1289

Total outcomes = 475 + 814 + 211

= 1500

Probability = 1289 / 1500

Probability of getting atleast one girl = 1289 / 1500

b) Families having 2 girls = 475

Total families = 1500

Probability of getting 2 girls = 475 / 1500 = 19 / 60

c) At most includes families with one girl as well as families having no girl.

Possible outcomes = 814 + 211 = 1025

Total families = 1500

Probability = 1025 / 1500 = 41 / 60

Probability of getting at most 1 girl = 41 / 60
