Given -

  • An equation = 4(x - 4) = 20

To -

  • Solve and check the equation.

Solution -

Let 4(4 - x) be LHS & 20 be RHS, then -

→ 4x - 16 = 20

→ 4x = 20 + 16

→ 4x = 36

→ x = 36/4

→ x = 9.

Procedure -

• This question is from the linear equation.

• In this question we are given with an expression 4(x - 4) = 20. In this first we will multiply the 4 which is given outside the bracket with the 4 and x which is inside the bracket.

• The we will transpose -16 to the RHS side, and after that we will add 20 with 16 and will keep it 4x like this.

• We will add 16 with 20 because whenever we transpose any number to the other side the actual sign changes.

• After the we will find the value of x, which 9.

Checking/Verification -

We will place 9 in place of x -

→ 4[4 - (9)] = 20

→ 16 - 36 = 20

→ -20 = 20

\therefore LHS = RHS

Hence, proved!
