6 - \dfrac{a - 1}{2} - \dfrac{a - 2}{3} = \dfrac{3 - a}{4}

Put into single fraction:

\dfrac{36 - 3(a - 1) - 2(a - 2)}{6} = \dfrac{3 - a}{4}

Distribute -3 and -2:

\dfrac{36 - 3a + 3 - 2a + 4}{6} = \dfrac{3 - a}{4}

Combine like terms:

\dfrac{43 - 5a}{6} = \dfrac{3 - a}{4}

Cross multiply:

4(43 - 5a) = 6(3 - a)

Distribute 4 and 6:

172 - 20a = 18 - 6a

Add 20a to both sides:

172 = 18 + 14a

Take away 18 from both sides:

154 = 14a

Switch sides:

14a = 154

Divide both sides by 14:

a = 11
