2x - y = 4 --------------- eq1

3x - 2y = 5 -------------- eq2

Elimination method -- make the coefficient of any one variable equal (whether it's x or y)

Let us take 'y'

2x - y = 4 ------- x 2

3x - 2y = 5 ------- x 1

So, now new equations

4x - 2y = 8

3x - 2y = 5

(-)  (+)     (-)

-----------------------

x          = 3

we got x = 3

put the value of 'x' in any one of the above equation

4x - 2y = 8

4(3) - 2y = 8

-2y = -12 + 8

-2y = -4

y = 2
